Ratnesh's notebook

About

Hi, I'm Ratnesh

I'm a full-stack developer in Ahmedabad with four years of shipping production web apps — Angular and React on the front, Node and Postgres behind them. Before any of that, I was a microbiologist.

The story

I did my master's in microbiology and went to work at Pfizer, deploying a laboratory information management system across production and R&D labs. On paper the job was about software compliance. In practice it was about the gap between how a lab actually works and how a system assumes it works — and about persuading three departments to change their habits.

I found I cared more about that gap than about the science on either side of it. So I spent two years teaching myself to build things properly before asking anyone to pay me for it.

What carried over from the lab was the notebook. Every procedure, every result, every failed experiment — written down, dated, kept. That instinct came with me, and it shows up aswell-documented code and commits you can still read a year later. It also left me unable to assume anything works until I've watched it work.

The other thing that carried over is patience with complicated systems. Biology doesn't yield to brute force; you understand it incrementally or not at all. Most of the hard problems I've hit since have had exactly that shape.

How I got here

  1. 2024

    Full Stack Developer

    TOPS Infosolutions, Ahmedabad · 2024–now

Next.js and TypeScript admin panels with role-based access control. Took the production site from a Lighthouse score of 68 to 92, and cut load time by 45%.

  2. 2022

    Full Stack Developer

    Excellent WebWorld, Ahmedabad · 2022–2024

Owned features end to end across products in India and Kuwait — React and Redux on the front, Express and MongoDB behind. SeenJeem, DAC and Skriti all came from here.

  3. 2020

    Teaching myself to build

    Self-directed · 2020–2022

Two years of deliberate study — JavaScript, React, Angular, Node — while working out whether a career change was a good idea or a bad one. It was a good one.

  4. 2018

    LIMS & Quality Systems Analyst

Pfizer Healthcare India, Visakhapatnam · 2018–2020

Rolled out gLIMS across production and R&D labs for three departments — structured data workflows, software compliance, and the human side of moving people onto a new system.

  5. 2016

    M.Sc. Microbiology

GITAM Institute of Science · 2016–2018

Where the notebook habit started — and where I first got more interested in the data coming off the instruments than in the instruments themselves.

When I'm not at a keyboard
